Canadian Forward Ike Ugbo Joins Sheffield Wednesday on Loan from Troyes

Canadian international forward Ike Ugbo is set to make waves in England’s second-tier Championship as he joins Sheffield Wednesday on loan from the French Ligue 2 side Troyes for the remainder of the season. This move follows a successful loan stint with Cardiff City, where Ugbo made a significant impact by scoring four goals in 22 competitive appearances.

Sheffield Wednesday, currently positioned 22nd in the 24-team Championship, welcomes the addition of the 25-year-old striker as they aim to bolster their squad. Originally born in London, England, to Nigerian parents, Ike Ugbo moved to Brampton, Ontario, with his family at the age of four and has since become a key player in Canada’s national team, earning eight caps.

Ugbo’s impressive football journey includes starting his career in Chelsea’s academy and experiencing loan spells at various clubs such as Barnsley, MK Dons, and Roda JC. His professional trajectory led him to sign with Belgium’s Genk in August 2021, followed by a loan to Troyes in January 2022, where the move became permanent in June with a four-year contract.

The 25-year-old forward made headlines by representing England at the under-17 and under-20 levels before switching his allegiance to Canada. Although he was part of John Herdman’s World Cup squad in 2022 in Qatar, Ugbo did not see action during the tournament.

Wearing the No. 12 jersey for Sheffield Wednesday, Ike Ugbo is poised to make a significant impact on the team’s performance. Sheffield Wednesday, founded in 1867, takes pride in being the fifth-oldest professional football club in England.
