Nigerian-Canadian artist Oyin Oladejo takes center stage in the upcoming revenge drama “Orah,” a film that promises to captivate audiences with its gripping narrative and powerful performances. The film, directed by Lonzo Nzekwe, has been selected to screen at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF 2023) in the Industry Selects program.

“Orah” follows the compelling story of Orah Madukaku, played by Oyin Oladejo, an illegal immigrant who finds herself working as a taxi driver in Canada after fleeing Nigeria due to a crime committed. The film’s storyline takes a dramatic turn as Orah becomes involved in international money laundering alongside attorney Eli Pope (played by Agape Mngomezulu) and his Nigerian client Bami Hazar (portrayed by O.C. Ukeje). The trio’s collaborative efforts aim to reunite Orah with her son, who is in Canada. However, when Hazar orders the murder of Orah’s son, the film delves into a dark and intense journey of revenge.

“Orah” boasts an impressive ensemble cast, with notable names including Lucky Onyekachi Ejim, Morgan Bedard, Somkele Iyamah-Idhalama, Oris Erhuero, Christopher Seivright, and Femi Lawson. Each member of the cast contributes their talents to bring the emotionally charged story to life.

Oyin Oladejo, recognized for her role in the acclaimed TV series “Star Trek: Discovery,” plays a pivotal role in “Orah.” Oladejo’s transition from Nigeria to Canada in 2001 marked the beginning of her journey in the world of acting. Her portrayal in “Star Trek: Discovery” garnered her recognition and applause, propelling her acting career to new heights.

“Orah” is the result of a collaborative effort between Lonzo Nzekwe, Floyd Kane, and Amos Adetuyi, who both wrote and produced the film. The production journey took place on two continents, spanning Ontario, Canada, and Lagos, Nigeria, effectively capturing the essence of the story’s cross-border narrative.

The ambitious project was directed by Lonzo Nzekwe, a filmmaker of Nigerian origin renowned for creating transnational Nigerian content. Nzekwe’s previous works, including “Anchor Baby” and “Meet The Parents,” highlight his dedication to storytelling. Beyond the silver screen, Nzekwe co-founded the first black-owned 24-hour Canadian television network, FEVA TV.
