Toronto FC Acquires Defender Aimé Mabika from Inter Miami CF

Toronto FC has announced its latest acquisition, defender Aimé Mabika, from Inter Miami CF. The club has signed a deal through 2023 with options for 2024 and 2025. In exchange, Toronto FC has sent $100,000 in 2024 General Allocation Money (GAM) to Inter Miami. The deal was agreed upon before the close of the Primary Transfer Window on April 24.

As part of the trade, Inter Miami will also receive up to an additional $100,000 in conditional GAM if performance-based metrics are met and retain a 25% sell-on percentage for Mabika. Mabika, who hails from Lusaka, Zambia, is 24 years old and was originally selected by Inter Miami as the 26th overall selection in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft.

During the USL League One regular season, Mabika played for Inter Miami CF II (formerly Fort Lauderdale CF), where he logged 1,260 minutes across 14 appearances, all starts. Mabika signed a First Team contract with Inter Miami CF on January 13, 2022, and made 18 appearances across all competitions in his first season with the club.

Aimé Mabika’s addition to Toronto FC’s roster brings depth to the team’s defense. At 6’6″ and 214 lbs, Mabika is a towering presence on the field, and his size and athleticism should make him a valuable asset to Toronto FC’s defensive line.

The acquisition of Aimé Mabika by Toronto FC is a strategic move that could pay off in the long term. Mabika’s potential, coupled with the sell-on percentage retained by Inter Miami, could provide a solid return on investment for the club in the future.
